Santa Cruz Guitar Company – D-Law Model handmade in Santa Cruz, California, USA. This guitar features a beautiful European Spruce Top, Hand-Carved Adirondack Double Tapered X-Bracing & Scalloped Tone Bars with hot hide glue assembly, Mahogany back and sides, Ebony peghead overlay, Herringbone rosette & purfling, Backlit Tortoise Binding, Ebony fingerboard & bridge, 1 11/16″ bone nut & compensated saddle, 25.25″ scale length, Waverly 4060 tuners, Nitrocellulose Lacquer finish, and Ameritage arch-top hardshell case. The D Model is a wonderful tribute to the Golden Era instruments of yesteryear. No other company but Santa Cruz can build a modern instrument with an old soul, and this one is no exception. It has a tremendous voice with crystal clear highs and a thundering low end. Richard worked closely with artist Scott Law to come up with what Scott called a ‘bulls-eye recipe’ for a responsive, playful dreadnought with a dynamic range that can hold its own in ensemble settings. To accommodate his diverse musical styles, Scott needed a serious instrument that would cut through with clear low end, but with the warmth and trebles needed for pristine solo work. In Scott’s own words, ‘we weren’t going for a signature model from the outset, we just ended up designing a killer guitar with my name on it. I totally respect the consistency and build quality the SCGC shop puts out. I have three of their instruments, plus, it’s just a great family of folks running a small, sustainable shop that are super fun to hang out with. Made it an easy choice.”
